How to get in shape for such a trip!
One of the things that I am really excited about this trip is just an opportunity and really a necessity to get in reasonable physical shape. I recognize that if I was to try and do this trip right now I would be hard pressed to pull it off in my current shape. So - both Cathy and I are hard at it - in the gym for me and Cathy likes the workout video tapes down stairs with friends.
I am doing a combination of cardio with an emphasis on the rowing machine of course and a fair amount of weight lifting.
I really started training for this around the 2007 new year but am now starting to take it more serious.
The other aspect is the sailing training as I have only limited sailing experience so far. To this end I am hoping to spend several weeks down in WA working during the day and getting lessons from some of my more experienced sailing family members and friends.
For me, I find it easier to be motivated to work out and plan with a trip like this to plan for.
